I studied marketing in college as I pursued a bachelor of science in business management.
From there, it was on to the marketing department of a publicly traded company, where I learned about assembling a marketing calendar and managing a budget.
Next, I went even further down the marketing rabbit hole during the pursuit of my MBA, taking B2B marketing electives and completing a related internship at a reputable local television network.
Then I picked up every book I could get my hands on on the topic. I consumed every piece of material published by Al Ries and Jack Trout. I devoured one Seth Godin book after the next. I took notes. I attended related seminars.
Over time, I assembled what I believed to be a marketing playbook of sorts.
Then, one day, I just walked into my gym, approached a handful of loyal clients, and asked what I should be focusing on. And wouldn’t you know it, they had all of the answers I had been seeking for years. It took me years of running a steadily growing business to learn that all of the marketing strategy I would ever need existed immediately outside my office door in the minds of my paying customers…I just needed to go ask for it.
Your clients will happily point out your strengths, so let them do so. And then go double down on those.
