Gym Owner Productivity Tip

How gym owners can reclaim their time and energy by separating focused work from true downtime.

A lot of gym owners feel overwhelmed and exhausted.

This makes sense. There’s a TON of stuff we need to get done each day.

Even more true if you have a personal life.

But here’s my hot take…

You have more time than you think.

Here’s how to actually experience this in reality:

1) When you’re ON, be ON.

Create a detailed calendar each night for the next day,

Prioritize the most important tasks and projects first,

And then stick to your plan.

If you find you get derailed, it means you need to be stricter about defending your attention. Specifically…

Box the times when you’re available for digital communication.

Don’t scroll social media. Don’t check emails. Don’t allow little fires to grab your attention or little annoyances blunt your energy.

Put your phone on Do Not Disturb, turn off all notifications, and if need be, remove the apps.

Don’t allow yourself to get buzzed and beeped and dinged all day long.

And then when you ARE looking at your emails or Slacks or DMs or WhatsApps or Facebook messages…

Set a clock and attack. Make a game of it.

Do this 2-3 times per day with discipline.

Even if you NEVER look at your digital inboxes outside this window,

You will be the most violently responsive person you know.

And you’ll slowly regain the ability to focus and be proactive.

Instead of always responding to “other people’s to do lists.”

2) When you’re OFF, be OFF.

End your day with a shutdown ritual. Braindump outstanding To Do items. Plan out your next day.

Then get away from your phone.

Or use a tool like Brick (which I use and like a lot).

Create a system that keeps you available for true emergencies,

Then be present with your family or friends.

Or just take time to be mentally quiet and read a book or go for a walk.

This will be one of the most powerful performance enhancing disciplines you can adopt.

I promise…

You have more time than you think.

The days are long and the years are short,
