How Does a Gym Owner Grow Revenue 60% in 10 Months?

A gym owner facing high costs and slow growth made three strategic changes that added $132k in revenue within 10 months.

Here’s how one long time gym owner grew their revenue by 60% in 10 months…

Chris Perry is one of the beating hearts of the Unicorn Society.

We’ve had the honor of working with Chris for years. So it’s been awesome to watch what he’s done over the past year or so.

The first thing to know is Chris opened his gym under a franchise agreement.

And after a few years, it became clear the support he’d been promised wasn’t coming. And with a 10-year lease signed, he had to figure something out.

That’s when he found BFU.

Fast forward to today: Chris has grown his top line by $132,000a 60% increase — over the last 10 months. And he just had his largest revenue month ever in March. (!)

Here’s are three key moves that made the magic:

#1: Lease Renegotiation to Cut Expenses

Chris was locked into a space that was way too big; specifically 12,000 sq ft of fixed cost.

Another owner may have grinded it out until the money ran dry. Instead, one of our coaches told him point blank: “Go to your landlord tomorrow and tell them you either get a smaller space or you’re closing.” He did. And it worked.

#2: An Avatar Shift that Doubled their Sports Performance Program

Chris was chasing older high school athletes in a brutally competitive market.

BFU Partner Pete Dupuis advised him to own middle school athletes.

Once again… Chris took action. That program has since doubled and it’s still growing.

#3: Getting Serious About Lead Generation AND Lead Nurture

Chris had tried paid agencies. And he’d tried running ads himself. And it didn’t get him what he wanted.

Even when you need more leads, BFU’s advice isn’t always “just run more ads.”

Sometimes you have to fine tune your ops first. Otherwise new leads are just water in a leaky bucket.

Once his systems were tight, he started working with our ad partner Gym Member Machine.

Then he went all-in on nurture and follow-up to convert the leads. Real talk: some days it was 3+ hours of follow-up work. It wasn’t easy.

But his ads were cash flow positive almost immediately, and 60% over prior year for 7 months running.

In his words:

“I will never not be in a learning mode or be in a place in my business where I can’t improve. This is why I’m still around after 8 years.”

As always, for ethical and legal reasons, I have to remind you that results will vary.

At the same time, Chris shows what can happen when a gym owner with a big heart gets some outside perspective and takes massive action.
