Which to Fix First: Marketing? Or Systems?

What matters more, marketing or systems?

And these are the TWO things that always seem to come up for gym owners who want help.

After all, most gym and studio owners want more leads

And they want higher quality leads; leads that value their service, that are willing to invest, and looking to build a long term relationship.

But they also want better systems.

They understand “SYSTEM” is an acronym for

These owners feel reactive. They want more consistency for their clients and from their teams. And they know this means creating effective “Standard Operating Procedures.”

They either:

1) Don’t have many systems

2) Have crappy systems 

3) Don’t follow their systems consistently (personally or via their team)

But forced to choose, most gym owners would say Marketing first.

And this makes sense. Say what you want about sales, or retention, or team performance, or even finance. Leads are the motherspring from which the entire business is made possible.

But here’s what’s easy to overlook…

When done well…

IS a set of Systems!

Think about it.

Whether you’re talking about:

  • Paid ad copy and creative
  • Joint ventures with business partners,
  • How to ask for referrals
  • Consistent email marketing
  • An Instagram content calendar
  • DMing followers to strike up a convo
  • Giving out business cards to strangers in a coffee shop

These are ALL systems.

So this is ultimately a false choice.

Because every business function needs to be a repeatable system.

Systems create reproducible results for you, your clients, your team, and your business. To say nothing of your personal bank account.
