Abusing Authenticity

Authenticity…the buzzword people like to attach to their definition of a powerful content creator…

I don’t disagree. Our current and potential clients can smell the stench of unauthentic content habits coming from a mile away. Authenticity matters.

The dark side of this drive for authenticity, however, is that far too many of us are leaning on it as an excuse for spewing negativity all over our follower’s feeds. Your brutally honest unsolicited feedback on a fellow professional’s content isn’t justified by a supposed pursuit for authenticity — it’s just an example of a dickhead looking for opportunities to showcase how much of a dickhead he is.

David Sedaris put it best when he said:

Be yourself, unless ‘yourself’ is an asshole.
